Organic Farming Research Foundation Names New Board Members, Chair

 

(Santa Cruz, CA) The Organic Farming Research Foundation Board of Directors has appointed four new members and has named Meg Moynihan as Chair. Moynihan has led the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Organic Program since 2002and is  a certified organic dairy farmer in Le Sueur County, MN. Joining Moynihan on the board’s executive committee are Jeff Moyer (Rodale Institute), Don Lareau (Organic flower grower, Paonia, CO), Mary Fund (organic crop and beef farmer, Nemaha County, KS), and Pamela Marrone (Marrone Bio-Innovations, Inc.)

“We are tremendously excited to have such qualified and enthusiastic new members join our board,” said Moynihan. “Several have farming backgrounds, and others bring strong policy, finance, and research credentials that will be huge assets to OFRF and its work on behalf of organic farmers.”

New OFRF Board Members: The following new members join the board for a three-year term.

Rigoberto I. Delgado (Rigo) - President of Tierra del Sol Farms, LLC,

Rigo operates a 120- acre, family-owned, farm located along the Rio Grande in West Texas.  He is a graduate of the University of Chihuahua, Mexico, (BS, Agricultural Economics, honors), the University of California at Berkeley (MBA, Finance), and the University of Texas School of Public Health (Ph.D., Management and Healthcare Economics).

Katrina Heinze – Organic Ambassador, Small Planet Foods/General Mills

As Organic Ambassador at General Mills in Minnesota, Katrina supports the sustainable agriculture programs for both Muir Glen and Cascadian Farm and provides stewardship for the original Cascadian Farm. Katrina has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne.

Harn Soper – Owner, Soper Farms / Sustainable Farm Partners

After the sale of his last technology company six years ago Harn went into his family's farming business in Iowa.  He currently operates a private equity company, Sustainable Farm Partners, LLP.

Deborah Stiner - Research Scientist, Ohio State University (retired)

As a researcher Deborah championed organic agriculture research. She was a Research Scientist and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology, Ohio State University. She received her B.S in Biology from the University of Tennessee and her Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Georgia.
