Creating sustainable communities drives Maureen Wilmot-- both on land and in the sea. She brings over twenty years of experience in environmental policy, marine science, non-profit management and communication and outreach to Organic Farming Research Foundation. She received her BA in Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz where she also established the docent program at the UCSC Long Marine Lab. Maureen received her MA in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island.
While running the public programs at a wetland visitor center in Southern California, Maureen was recruited to manage the national education programs for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Sanctuary Program in Washington DC. After ten years on the east coast, Maureen returned home to California. She was Executive Director of a coalition of conservation groups working to establish marine protected areas and also led a small communications and social marketing consulting company.
When not working on policy issues, Maureen is an avid gardener and recently won a Water Wise Garden Award from her local water district. She also is a certified Green Building Professional having completed a year-long program at Sonoma State University.
Maureen lives with her husband and two sons along the coast of California.
